A thrifting find.

I go out often to scout for items for my Etsy Shop, Sign of Two Cats.
Most times I find an item or two. Sometimes I hit a nice cache. Other times i come away empty handed. But then there are the times, completely unexpected, when i come up upon something that I keep for myself. And that is saying something, I don't keep many items. Part of the reason i have this shop is so i can feed my need to scout out wonderful vintage items, but ultimately i do not really want to live with them. I gravitate towards a very minimalist lifestyle, digging deeper into that every year. But...... there is that pull for finding the perfect vintage item, and passing them on lets me fill both my needs!

Its a win/win!

But..... here is the issue, some items I can't seem to part with.
Case in point, a few weeks ago I found this sweet little side chair at a local shop.
My background is in the museum field. I have spent many, MANY hours on my back (careful now...) with a flashlight learning about antique furniture, I LOVE learning about material culture.

Back to my find. I saw this sweet little chair, and honestly you have to develop an eye to scout out vintage items. In big warehouse size centers, or small crowded shops, bad or little to no lighting, coupled with dust, grime and surrounded by unappealing objects, a diamond in teh rough can be over looked.

But this is an early 19th c country Sheraton side chair.

Dani is giving it her seal of approval! I hate to admit it, but i am one of those people, who when someone says "I love your XXX (fill in the blank...coat, chair, gloves etc..) cannot , LITERALLY CANNOT just say thank you. I have to tell you how much i paid for it, unless of course i didn't get a deal and then i just say "Thank You"  So you like the chair? Oh, $1.60!! (was 2.00 but I had my 10% discount card and it was double discount Wednesday!)  And no, I am not a coupon queen when it comes to food and pallets of Q-Tips.

And the brass Victorian coat stand, that is another story for another day!
